  • Risks of buying second hand?

Someone has a Galatea Domus coffee machine and a Mazzer Luigi Mini Man grinder for sale not far from here.

Both new in 2009, well maintained and recently serviced according to the seller. Included in the sale is the usual range of accessories - tamper, knock box, milk jug etc.

The asking price is about $1900.

Are these usually good reliable machines and how does the price sound?

    Thanks.

PS. Reviews online suggest these are both excellent but I'm after some unbiased opinions here.

I'd be careful, with it being 7 years old, you may only get 2 or 3 more decades of use out of these machines

      Fair enough.

      Thanks Magnafunk

I believe Yelta had this same setup and seems to be very happy with it, I reckon it's a pretty good deal as long as it's been fed good water and you continue to treat it well it's a lifetime investment. That's as long as you can keep the upgrade bug at bay

I'd say its slightly overpriced. There's a 2009 Galatea on the evil bay listed by Barazi (Bezzera Australia) selling for $1400. I almost pulled the trigger couple of weeks ago when the 10% site wide off was on.

            Thanks for all your replies.

The upgrade bug, Magnafunk, is one I hope to avoid. Been there before, so I want to get it right this time.

Paul, * ****, my gut feeling is unsure about a used machine that, as good as they are, has done 7 or 8 years daily work. I know it was suggested by MF that it may have only 20 or 30 years left but still...........

Further checking has confirmed that the Galatea is an 08, not 09. I can't say for sure how good the water used in it was. Haven't seen it yet.

A new setup as you've suggested appeals and this is why I'm undecided.

I saw the 09 one on eBay that I think you're talking about Symphonie. At W'gabba? From the photos it looks slightly better than the one I mentioned in the first post. A year newer and by the serial number, about 7000 machines later. The chrome on the steam wand is better on the $1400 one on eBay. A minor point but less used I presume.

A quick an easy way to witness / confirm scale on an E61 machine is to unbolt the mushroom.

              Cheers
