      Hi Kurt95,

I've had nice beans from Padre, Duke's, Market Lane, Small Batch, Seven Seeds and Proud Mary. All roasters with cafes located in Melbourne.

      Enjoy.

Many to choose from... I would recommend Code Black (flagship cafe in North Melbourne or roastery in Brunswick), Double Dutch (also in Brunswick, might be closed due to holiday...) and Aunty Peg's by Proud Mary in Collingwood.

Proud Mary is also worth a visit for the food, but gets very busy on weekends. Patricia, Switchboard and Cup of Truth in the CBD are all good too, but closed weekends IIRC.

I had one of the worst espressos I have ever paid for there. Undrinkable grassy lemon. At best, it was absolute garbage- a botched roast which should have been binned.

I really should have asked for my money back.

All of the others are pretty good. Padre can also be great when expertly pulled.

Admiral cheng ho specialty coffee. Abbotsford.
Axil. Hawthorn. (Recommend top of Flinders Lane store also. Only weekdays though.)

Ken Taing at Focus 439 Whitehorse Road. Balwyn is well worth a visit, often has 90+ coffees on offer!!

These days if you start with a list of All Melbourne cafes and subtract cafes where all staff wear welding overalls and continue to subtract the cafes that serve warm lemon juice in cups and describe it as single origin with hints of hazelnut and cranberry you are left with Campos coffee in Carlton and about 5 other cafes.

They can wear spacesuits and have beards that cover their entire bodies. If the coffee's good and they're reasonably well mannered, I'm there.

You just described the baristas at the last 5 cafes I attended.

Agree with this list but don't forget Axil. If I had to choose one it would be St Ali (South Melbourne). I tend to find Bean Hunter pretty reliable when I'm unsure.

Sensory Labs - I've been there about 3 times and always found it disappointing till I made a resolution not to go back. I want to like it but I just haven't ever enjoyed the coffee.

The way they make it or their roasts too? Sensory Lab "Seamless" is my current favourite for home shots.
