Suspect the cups are 6oz plus one or two oz spare to avoid spillage etc

Although there is the other school of thought that in the US, 8oz is considered a standard cup. Just to add to the confusion,

Yep 30 mls = 1 UK fluid ounce, near enough.

Hmmmm! lets see how this one develops.

Roughly speaking you are correct. It also depends on whether you are using UK (imperial) measures or US measures.

    1 fl oz (Imp) = 28.41 ml
    1 fl oz (US) . = 29.57 ml

so 6 fl oz (Imp) = 170.47 and 6 fl oz (US) = 177.44 ml.

I'd say the cups are designed to be roughly filled to the 70% mark to achieve the 6 oz without the risk of spillage.

started a topic Are 6oz cups really 6oz's?

    Are 6oz cups really 6oz's?

On Google I read that 6 fluid ounces is 177ml

    I measured my 6 ounce double-walled coffee glass...I also measured a 6oz take-away paper cup

...they measured to 250ml (that's with water filled to the very top)

Perhaps it's assumed that they mean 6oz a cm from the top, but I don't see a marking on my glass

    Anyone know anything about this?
