  • People are disgusting.

I've recently bought a few 'parts or repair' em69XXs and Brevilles. To be precise it ended up being 1 x em6900, 2 x em6910 and 2 x 800es. The 6900 was indeed trash due to an attempted DIY collar mod. One em6910 and one 800es are not heating up (I've taken the bellow shower screens off this em6910). They were all just seriously dirty. And when I say dirty I mean DIIIRRRRRTY. As you can see-

The machines were all in this sort of condition and were still in use. At least until they "stopped working". No wonder they stopped working, it was probably in protest!! Clean your machine people, there's no excuse for this.
The good 800es actually only needed a clean. Nothing else. I gave it a good clean inside and out, replaced one panel and a portafilter from the other machine and did some minor mods. It's now making great coffee:

So out of five machines I've disassembled 3 for parts and have definitely resurrected one so far. If I can get a decent collar I'll get a good em6910 from it as well. Most of these machines would've lasted longer if they'd been looked after better that's for sure.

    People are disgusting.

Newly discovered form of instant coffee grit granules there. Blend 44 on the way?!

Good that you got a working machine out of the chaff.

Crikey! don't think I've seen worse, a close family member of mine is a bit slack when it comes to cleaning that area of his machine, compared to these his machine is pristine.

Great to see a machine brought back to life. There's so much waste.

Think I might've saved this em6910. The switch for the hot water tap had literally fallen apart, possibly due to abuse, so I needed to break one open from a donor machine and cobble it back together with some imaginative use of epoxy glue and blue tac. I also pinched the collar from this machine and fitted it after cleaning all the old coffee from out of the good one. It's still worn, but it's usable and I'm getting a seal at the group unless I don't pay attention. I'll grab a better or new collar and it'll be like new again. I ran a backflush cycle and the water coming from the machine is clean now!! Amazing!
