Long story short - I have been put in the position of running a newly established cafe that is at the tail end of refurbishment.
I am a cake decorator. My son purchased a cake shop (without my knowledge) and decided to put a cafe in it as an additional source of income. Smart move as it is directly opposite a post office, local swimming centre, high school being built just up the road, main road location, street parking and no other cake shops in the immediate vicinity.
Initially he wanted me to come in bake and decorate. Thats fine - I can do that. But a cafe?? I have no idea. I now believe that we will have to do lunches (at least sandwiches etc) and that part seems easy.
Big question is: how do I find an awesome barista? Someone who knows what they are doing? Preferably that wont try and pull the wool over my eyes. What is the average wage for one in Melbourne? I am being advised to put staff on part time initially. Are barista's happy with that generally?
Can anyone offer any advise please?
