Be sure to enjoy the various styles of BBQ as you travel through the south, and stay away from the bright and shiny joints. The more run down the BBQ shack looks the better the Q tends to be! Not to mention the price being better as well!
Java "BBQ fanatic!" phile
Thanks for the tip JP, I agree BBQ is good, I'm sure we will sample our share.

I'm sitting on a veranda in Leonardtown Maryland, the temp is a balmy 33 degrees, watching the squirrels and humming birds in a delightful woodland setting, almost enjoying a mug of plunger Hawaiian Kona, nothing special, however, it's hot, wet, black and better than the drip brew we experienced on the way over, with one notable exception the coffee has been the usual dismal stuff foisted onto travellers in airports/motels etc. had a couple of very nice double espressos at a Peets café in Burlingame near the SanFrancisco airport, only down side, they serve in paper cups, one of my pet hates.
Coffee is still generally hit and miss over here, diners and restaurants are usually stewed drip stuff, what it lacks in quality it makes up for in quantity, once in a while you stumble on something above average, its a battle.
Had a magnificent steak for dinner last night accompanied by a bottle of Australian Shiraz, good American beef really is exceptional.
Will be here for about a month, road trip planned through a few of the Southern states, hoping to take in a some Bluegrass music events along the way, also plan to camp out in the Shenandoah national park for a few nights.
Will try to make a few more update posts during our stay.
