  • Help, I need a new supplier.

My small batch roaster has shut shop and moved overseas.

Taste is a personal thing ................... so rather than advising me on your favourite bean/brew.

Can people please tell me of the private coffee shops around Brisbane, that are owned by ANAL champion barista's, who roast their own.
I will visit, sample and then try a bag at home.

Have to admit I'm an anul home grown barista, got so used to my own machinery and methods, I haven't been able to drink big brand franchised coffee for years.

    TIA.

Hi Ghezzi, no idea but what is Anul? When you google anul coffee you get some unpleasant subjects, can you enlighten me what ANUL is? Thanks

I don't want anal coffee, just nice coffee that has been roasted by a champion barista for his own coffee shop.
Whether he is anal or not is unimportant, but I do like accuracy and consistency in the roasted bean.

Wouldn’t coffee roasted by a ‘champion’ roaster be better? Generally baristas make the coffee drinks and roasters put some brown on the beans.

Lead me to them ......................... please.

Any bum (self) can make a crap coffee from quality roasted beans.
A champion barista cannot make great coffee from a crap roast.
Many highly awarded beans don't suit my taste.

I worked 1 day a week for 3 years with my old roasting buddy.

Therefore, I now choose to start with a taste test, and work backwards .................. if I like.

I had been told there are small (non-franchised) coffee shops around, owned by champion barista's, that roast their own beans.

Anul beans. Is that the stuff from Indonesia that comes out a cat’s jacksie?

As you said, taste is a personal thing. Perhaps you should have listed your question in a different manner. I believe (and have seen on this forum in the past) that you would have got a much more positive response by simply asking if anyone knew of any small batch roasters in the Brisbane area.

You could have then engaged in conversation about your personal preferences and techniques. Both of which seem to be missing from this post. The only requirement that I can find is that the roaster is an award winning barista that owns and runs their own cafe. I would presume you would like them to be making the coffee as well. Honestly, I do not think you will have much luck with that search.

I, and many others on this site, will be more than happy to help you with your search. But we will need a bit more info on what exactly you are looking for. Good luck mate.

                Dramanti Artisan Roaster

                Hi,

Check out Dramanti Artisan Roaster in Wynnum/Morningside. Great stuff, beans sourced from all over the world, roasted in Morningside.

My apologies Ghezzi, I didn't realise it was a mispelling of anal. Good luck on your search.

Thanks for that jonocugnet, big help, been making a list of the recommended shops/roasteries. I'm on the road everyday, will be looking to pay these places a visit and sample their wares.

Bosco, my bad. Got the bad news this arvo and my next delivery will be used up by 7th May. Panicked!!!

My fav blend had Indonesian, Brazil and PNG beans, called "Dark and Stormy". Not a dark roast per say but a full bodied coffee without any lingering accidity. Makes the usual take away taste like Brisbane river.
Any visitor I have complains later, they no longer enjoy average run of the mill coffee. So it would be good to refer them to various artisans of the elixir. Time for me to get out and explore as well.

I usually drink flat whites, maybe an affogato at night.
Mazzer Major and Expobar Minore .............. doesn't mean I know jack, but usually just wait till I get home to have a decent cup.
We're all SNOBS here, aren't we?

A place well worth checking out is Veneziano Coffee at West End.
Probably worth having a look through this category too... QLD

There's also Bellissimo and Bear Bones on the northern side of the river.
                      Lots to choose from.

                      Mal.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, keep the suggestions coming.
Had a job in Ipswich this morning, so took the opportunity to visit Dancing Bean, up the alley and out the back of 164 Brisbane St.

Nao (roaster & my barista) was very helpful and informative, very educational. He roasts lighter than what I had been used to, sampling some single origins I'm familiar with showed a vast difference in flavours.
Unfortunately I have a dodgy kidney that limits my caffeine input, after 3 quick shots I'm feeling the pain, so I'm on H2O for the remainder of the day.

My palet isn't refined enough for me to accurately describe the flavours, so I'll stick to "they were all nice coffees" varying from mild to fruity to "Wow! That's got a hefty kick".

Keep the suggestions coming and I'll try and regulate dialisis.
