Hello coffeesnobs!
I have been playing around brewing for a fairly short amount of time after the nespresso pods weren't satisfying my morning coffee needs.
I've played around with a French press and percolator, getting reasonable results by my standards but just not getting that flavour out of the coffee I'm seeking.
Now I'm no coffee snob but I do have standards. I already had a Breville dose control pro which seems to do a reasonable job. On the the weekend I reluctantly bought a second hand Breville 800es for $80. I had extremely low expectations after reading up a bit about the machine but figured I could tinker with it for a few weeks, get frustrated and throw it away.
To my surprise it actually pumps out an okay coffee by my standards, it's not quite where I want it but it's okay.
I am wondering if it's worthwhile sourcing an unpressurized basket and thinking with that or am opening a can of worms?
I'm hesitant to modify the pressurised basket just incase I want to move back it.
I am also curious about timing/measuring my shots. My machine doesn't have a time so I'm pretty much running it till it the colour looks like it's becoming lighter. (I am yet to time this but it seems to be a lot less that the 30seconds that I have heard about a bit)
Any tips, advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks folks.
