From what I can see, there is no ABN Search results - all ABNs and names | ABN Lookup

Yes once again a customer has been duped into buying "Australian stock".

From what I understand in this case the customer had no idea the business was not based in Australia.

Unfortunately its the local legitimate businesses that are left to convey the bad news and pick up the pieces.

Mal, I don't believe there is an ABN registration for this company. We haven't done an ABN search but yes if there is then there should be moves to have their Australian Business Number removed

    Cheers

How do outfits like this become eligible to gain an ABN?
Seems like that should be the first "port of call" to prevent the ratbags from purveying the illusion of an Australian presence...

    Mal.

More around the traps at the moment about this dodgy EU operation which now calls itself New Caffe Italia

Seems they're still rogering Aussies with lies about bricks and mortar which don't exist, stock in the country which they don't have, GST that they don't pay and warranty support which they don't provide.

The productreview site is loaded with bad reviews.

Thanks to all who have responded - confirms my own suspicions Cafe Italia is at best dodgy and at worst fraudulent.

At face value the site looks plausible with normal AU prices wth GST included.
While the “on special” Alex machines are attractively priced other machines carry normal retail price tags - a clever guise. Contact details clearly depict an Australian address in Sydney and phone number.

Anyone new to the coffee scene could be easily conned......
Especially if they failed to read the “gotcha” buried in the Terms & Conditions

“ Sometimes when we run out of stock in Australia, we have to ship some of our products directly from our main warehouse in Milano. You will not be charged for any extra shipping cost for that. It is may possible that you will get an international transaction fees debited by your bank in this rare occasion”.

Which means they can declare at will: “sorry mate we just sold out - your order will now come from Italy”. And the unsuspecting customer is subsequently slugged with import duties!

Product Review feedback on this company indicates people are being systematically ripped off.
There is also a similar disturbing pattern on the UK site with a number of horror stories. 

There’s a lot to be said for purchasing from your local honest dealer - peace of mind has a price!

    “Complete scam so beware *****
Website looks Australian and has Sydney number but machine got sent from Italy and I had to pay GST and extra customs fees.
Complained to them and they said they aren’t responsible even though on website that machines look like they machines are in Australia.
    Horrible experience so beware everyone.
I will lodge a compaint with Fair trading.”

This company offers very attractive prices that seem to be too good to be true.
Especially on the Alex Duetto and Alex Leva at under 4K!!!

There's another thread here (or a few) that mention Cafe Italia. They're not exactly a scam but more of a scamette. Giving an impression of being based in Australia but the stuff they sell comes from depots in Asia or EU type rabbit holes in Bulgaria or the like. If you ring the local Aus number it could be an unemployed desperado piano salesperson who doesn't know a Pavoni from a ravioli. Buying from CI is one step up from investing in a Nigerian one-legged lesbian heiress email lottery.

First port of call if you were in the market for a machine.
Local stock and demo models available at their show room.
Full Australian warranty and complied for Australia with Australian electrical plugs.
Great warranty service and easy service options with their in house service techs in every state in Australia.
Did I mention their great pricing that is inclusive of GST?

I seem to remember that they are Grey Importers and don't carry local stock. Machines are sent from overseas and GST would be applied not to mention the associated risks of damage in transit. Warranty claims were an issue too I believe. Others may be able to comment further but I believe it was a case of "Enter at your own risk" !
