Will be in Perth shortly and the info on roasters that also serve coffee will be helpful. Could you copy that info into "good coffee where" so that others might benefit from it into the future?

    G'day Blacktownbrew

Since W Pth shut down a few months back I have tried quite a few roasters around town and found most of them pretty ordinary. None of my "near Rockingham local" ones are worth visiting, so I am forced to go further afield.

I bought the Grand Central Colombian direct (and straight out of their roaster) from their Bibra Lake place. They also have a brilliant light roast blend (considering I usually prefer SOs, it must be really, really good) as both an espresso and a cold steep. Their medium blend is also worth a try - great quality, well roasted - just not to my personal taste. YMMV - which is what makes it fun.

Be aware that Grand Central are mainly wholesalers to the industry (worldwide nowadays - they have grown a lot lately). They are only semi-open to the public Mon to Wed mornings (9??? to 12) on a "come in, grab what you need and leave" basis - not that they are unfriendly, just (very) busy. Luke is an excellent roaster - probably Perth's best now W Pth has shut down (after nearly 45 years... "all good things come to an end"). I suspect GC is also picking up most of the "local Pth trade" as word gets around.

My first backup option was always Antz Inya Pantz in E. Vic Pk. It used to be very inconsistent in both coffee quality and roast quality, then it improved both a lot and now (according to unsubstantiated rumour) has changed hands (sigh, I hope not). This is a "maybe" not a recommendation until I know what is going on there now (shades of Oz PMs - Q: Who is it? A: what time is it?).

A wild card - I had an "medium slightly dark organic" at a fellow CS'r's the other day from "The Source" (also Vic Park, although they have two other stores). I am going past their door tomorrow and will be having a good look / possible purchase.

Add to list: Yahava - is in Swan Valley and I will be giving them another go shortly. I had a fairly good cuppa there about a year ago.

    Hope this helps

That ONA Coffee looks interesting, but it's quite on the expensive side hey.

Also (probably better, although it has been a while) Andy's Sulawesi Blue - nothing short of incredible.

All my other "special coffees" are too rare to mention.

It depends on how you roast to how sweet the coffee will be and taste is subjective.

One of the sweetest I remember was a Hawaiian a few years ago and more recently a PNG Mt Ambre.

Without doubt, a Yemeni Bani Ismail (Hirazi) from several years ago.
Just a wonderful outcome right down to the last bean...

A real shame about what is going on over there now. One can only hope that the ordinary people come out of it all Ok in the end.
