It depends what you want to learn, but you can’t go past James Hoffmann’s ‘The World Atlas of Coffee’ for a general overview of all things coffee. It’s probably less technical than Rao’s books, but gives more info about the history of coffee and growing regions.
I’ve also read ‘The Curious Barista’s Guide to Coffee’ by Tristan Stephenson and am just over half way through ‘Real Fresh Coffee’ by Jeremy Torz & Steven Macatonia. They’re all good books and are somewhat similar in the things they cover, but different enough that it’s worth reading all of them. They’re all really nicely presented, but ‘The Curious Barista’s Guide to Coffee’ does suffer from a few too many typos and editing fails. It’s a shame really as it’s a surprisingly good book and probably the one that I’d recommend to people that are new to making coffee.
The 2nd edition of ‘The World Atlas of Coffee’ is about to be released so if that one interests you then I’d grab the latest version for sure. There’s others out there such as the just released ‘The New Rules of Coffee’ by the guys from Sprudge, and Scott Rao has the one about soft brew. If you want to look back in time a little there’s books and resources from pioneers like David Schomer and Andrea Illy. I haven’t read any of them so can’t comment personally.
As far as online resources goes it’s hard to go past Sweet Maria’s, Counter Culture and the ever growing Barista Hustle. YouTube channels worth checking out include Tim Wendelboe, James Hoffmann, RealChrisBaca, Sweet Maria’s and FrenchPressCoffee.com for starters. There’s heaps more out there though. Hope this helps somewhat.

Favourite Barista Training Books/Resources DVDs etc
Hi all,
Just wondering if you can recommend or have a list of your favourite reads/dvd/resources for learning the ins and outs of the barista art. I have recently got Scott Rao's Professional Barista book, and am really enjoying it. Just wondering if there are any others you can recommend?
