I use my expresso machine first thing in the morning then not again until around lunchtime. Should I leave it switched on all morning?

Why would you? Most will likely switch off after a period of time anyway. But considering most machines take all of 5 min to get to temp, why would you waste the power?

Australis why not consider a wifi connected timer? Some machines take half an hour or more to get up to temp, with a timer you can set a time or control remotely. If you mention the machine I am sure someone would be able to give an idea of warm up time.

The warm up time is considerable. The machine is a Rocket Mozza. Evo. R

Leave it on until after your lunchtime usage.

wasn't sure if you meant the comments above or they were written in jest.

Absolutely mean them. Without knowing what the OP has, my first thought was entry level consumer which mostly have an automatic shutoff and and small boilers that heat up pretty quickly.

and group heads that usually don't. Also, if it did fully heat in five minutes then I doubt Australis would be bothering with the question.

                            ...which now appears anyway

Anyway, now that we all know what the machine is, the answer to leave it on will be convenient and not too costly. It should have good boiler insulation.

                            Also, install solar panels.
