  • Advice needed

Hey all. Bit of advice needed as I'm new to this. I bought a sunbeam em6910 and had it serviced.. new group head seals etc. The grinder I bought is just a sunbeam cafe series so not best quality. Anyway when making coffee this morning the water hardly gets through and the coffee ends up almost like mud in the handle.. am I grinding the coffee too fine? Sorry if this is a silly question

Sounds like it Mick, try grinding a little coarser, just a touch, if still choking the pour, coarser again, may take a few tries, you will get there in the end.

Once you establish a grind setting that suits you, away you go.
PS Make sure your using fresh, quality beans, not supermarket stuff.

No, it's not a silly question, we all had to start somewhere.

      Hi Mick,

I used to have *exactly* the same setup and can tell you that Yelta is right. I started at the mid-point on the grind setting and worked my way finer until I got a good extraction. That grinder is perfectly fine for home and is well-matched to the machine. And as Yelta quite rightly said, get yourself some good beans from a reputable roaster. We started with beans that a cafe we really liked used and went from there.

      Good luck!
