  • Smart WIFI Powerpoint for coffee machine

    Hi everyone,

Thinking of getting a smart powerpoint to heat up my machine before I get home/wake up so it’s ready to go. Would be good for when you’re out and invite people over as well.

Does anyone use one and rate them well?

The one I’m looking at is the TP-LINK HS110. Bunnings sell it for $49

Yes those are fine and the associated app works well and is reliable.

I use them for my garden lights.

I'm using this on my Expobar and it's great. I'd suggest using the app called "Tuya Smart" which is the company behind the circuitry. There are literally dozens of branded devices that use the Tuya brains and it's much simpler to use a single app rather than a dozen different ones.

Update: I bought the one I originally posted and set it up. Super easy and and working well. Looking forward to setting the schedule mode for when I’m on day shifts.

Just back from Bunnings as well. The $20 Brilliant smart plug is rated 10A/2400W. Is it safe to use with Profitec 500? I dont have the specs handy but a quick search had a few sites saying this machine was 15A.

It's only got a 1400W heating element, it'll be under 2400W total. Check the label on the machine for exact wattage rating.

240v x 10amps is 2400 watts....ie the max for a 10 amp GPO. So...a coffee machine sold here with a 10 amp plug is not permitted by the Regs to draw more than 2400 watts in Australia. The little switch I suspect has to offer than same current carrying capacity as a GPO ie 10 amps so will be right for any 10amp piece of equipment that meets Au regs. So yep Profitec sold here with 10 amp plug should be fine.

I am getting one of these for my new Mitica TOP. Great idea.

                    Cheers

Thanks for confirming. All set up now so the machine turns on at 6:30am and off at 9am. And can switch on as needed using the app. Such a handy little switch at a reasonable price.

Hey Alexa... turn on the coffee machine.

Yes Dave. That would be my pleasure.

Out intrepid home barista Dave issues the usual morning command

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL."

And is met with the baffling response,

                              "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."

Seems the POD machine has malfunctioned:

                              Dave: What's the problem?
                              HAL
: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

I'm sure there are some creative types among us who can take this a lot further.
