I grew up in Dairy country which has now been replaced by human filing cabinets (flats, units whatever name you prefer) as the farmers could not make a decent living. It also means that some of our best farming land is being replaced by higher population and farming is being pushed to more marginal places. The end result is obvious, even without climate change.
I think you're being generous to them. They've screwed just about everything there is to screw in Australia.

Problem is the supermarkets have the upper hand, cows need to be milked twice a day and the milk cant be stored for prolonged periods, the chains know this and prey on the fact, its a difficult situation, I don't envy dairy farmers, certainly not a life style most of us would choose.

Might be a good time for dairy farmers to demand a realistic price for their product rather than what the mega supermarket chains dictate to them. Even with the token 10c litre increase not long ago, the price paid to farmers is largely unsustainable for all but the larger operations. Even at twice the price milk would be cheap when you take take into account drought, feed supply rip-offs during drought, fuel, electricity for the milking shed etc. Look at what people pay for bottled water. Just doesn't add up.

I vote the farmers stick it to Coles and Woolies and make them finally listen to their reality!

    The horror.

"Over the past couple of days, customers have been noticing empty shelves where the two-litre bottles of the beloved milk drink should be."
