Hello all. First post here, and am asking for your opinions, experience.
I have a small Nut Roasting business, sort of Cafe, and a few months ago had a reconditioned Faema Smart Machine professionally installed. We had an old Faema some years back, but that packed it in and parts could not be found, then not long ago situations changed and we bought the Faema Smart. It's mostly for my own pleasure and a great excuse to come to work. We don't sell a lot of coffee, though our clientele is growing. I am not a good Barrista, but I attempt to improve with every cup I make.
So, approximately 10 days after the machine was installed I was making a long black and I noticed the water was coming out "Blackish" from the hot water wand. I phoned my installer, (3 month warranty) and he comes out and tells me that the milk has travelled back up the wand and contaminated the tank. I ask how that could be, as I do have a basic awareness of how to make coffee, and always flush the wand immediately, etc. He is adament, (in that I know more about coffee than you will ever know sort of way) that it's "User Error," and continues to write me an $230 Invoice. I state that I am not paying it, and to take it up with his Boss, who I have known for some years, not personally. Boss comes out a week or two later, adament that it is "user error", though cuts the bill in half. I buy my coffee from them. I pay the bill. I ask about the Filter Flushing, but am told that that could not have been the problem. Milk Contamination!!
That was around 2 months ago, and it has been grinding on me ever sense. The first person I asked about this was another Barrista, and he asks "Did he flush the filter?" I get a lightbulb effect, for that is exactly what the water looked like, not milk, but carbon contamination.
Installation included a Brita C150 Filter kit.. When I go to find the Installation Manual, I can only find the one for the Jug filter, but it states to "Flush" the filter before use.
Any ideas on whether the Non Flushed Filter was the culprit, or was it me?
Thankyou
