  • Water Filtration Perth Hills

Have the following from the Water Corporation for our supply

    90 Total Alkilinity
    90 Total Hardness
    390 Total Dissolved Solids

The boiler in our coffee machine (ECM Mechanika V Slim) is SS

Using a Brita jug with a Maxtra carbon filter which seemed to do a good job on the Silvia.

Should I consider upgrading to something like the C150?

The Brita jug will cost you money and do very little for your machine. The C150 doesn't remove all the chlorine from the water, which will eventually create pin holes in your boiler. The "C150 Finest" is designed for SS boilers. Yes if you like your machine you need to feed it good water.

Firstly, get your water tested rather than relying on a number plucked from somewhere. You may well be substantially different to what your local authority has to say.

Based on the figures you provide, you will kill it (rapidly) with that water and it's beyond the capabilities of the C150 Finest as well.

Should you want that from a water professional, refer it to Bombora supplies. Alternately, https://techcenter.lamarzocco.com/js...calculator.jsp works well too.

Bottled or remineralised RO I am afraid as stainless boilers are way more picky when it comes to water.

In the northern suburbs of Perth we also get soup through our water taps. Bought a testing kit from the local Pet Shop which helped me understand our "localised" situation. Bombora recommended - and I self-installed - Claris Everpure filtration, no regrets after 7+ years of regular, plumbed in, R58 use.

All good. Regardless, SS boilers are a whole new ball-game and we know a lot more than filtration and stainless than we did 7 years ago. I wouldn't use the Everpure with a stainless boiler either.

Thanks Caffeinator for the heads up - time to revisit the water rabbit hole. Any tips greatly appreciated.

              Thanks everyone for your replies.
Ability to instal an undersink filter system is zero unfortunately.
I use only 300 - 400 ml of water a day (2 - 3 piccolos), so perhaps 10 or 20 litres of filtered water stored in the second fridge.
Where might I source this water from that might come with a label that states it's pH, TDS etc in Perth??
I'm assuming that Woolworths isnt the right answer

I think you will find there is no correct answer and no one is happy to answer it.

What I mean by this is manufactures who have to carry the warranty.

RO in some cases for home applications aren’t favoured, then they speak of bladder water from the shops but don’t provide a recommendation.

                Good luck.

I've asked the Aust importer of my machine for some advice....
I suspect they will go with the best (most expensive) solution
Maybe bottled water is the solution best suited as it is cost effective (for me) saves me having to plumb in a filter in a less than ideal place
Has to be better than using what is coming out of the tap!

I think the "tip" already supplied in Post #3 is the best advice by a long way...

                    Mal.

You are correct good Sir. Response from Bombora:

The Brita Finest filter is a great little filter for reducing the effects of Calcium and Magnesium ions from your incoming water source. Unfortunately it will do little in the fight against Chloride. Looking at your water data below , I would suggest that your Chloride levels are well over 100 ppm and it these kind of levels your machine’s boiler will simply not cope. The solution would be to either look at a reputable bottled water supplier ( I would test TDS with a meter) or look at a Reverse osmosis system to prevent the build up of scale and corrosion.
