Coffee should come with a warning label: the more you learn, the more you learn there is to learn
my wife said this to me just today. Since I upgraded to an e61 machine I’ve been learning about water quality, bean ageing, degassing, grinding, “popcorning”, dosing, dispersing grinds in the filter, filter basket brands, p/f types, bottomless p/f .... and I still haven’t pulled a shot.
Then there is grind weight, shot time, weight in / weight out, Crema, channeling
Then have a look at the puck, dry, wet, breaking up,
The taste the coffee, bitter, sweet, mouth feel, after taste
Then steam the milk, texturing, fine foam, no foam (too much green grass)
