  • Global latte cost

$4.50 in Australia? About $3.70 to $3.90 we pay in our parts in Melbourne's east.

    Hi

The source for this was "Finder, internal report" and no link to their report so you can read their methodology, sample size or data. Even in Sydney there is a variation as large as in that report between Macquarie Street (Lattes for Lawyers) and Blacktown (Latte for Laborours). It's because of the rents in different areas, whether the cafe subsidises coffees by selling something else (Petrol Service Stations) and all the other factors. So using some "average price of a tall latte" for a country is completely meaningless drivel.

Still worthy of a thread I reckon, on the Gold Coast, Qld we pay $4.50 or $5 for a double shot medium sized latte from any Cafe. Those tend to be the only two prices on the Gold Coast apart from cheap servo coffee.

It isn't called the 'Gold Coast' for nothing...

Yeah not wrong there! The sad thing is there are not as many good cafes as somewhere like Sydney or Melbourne (or even Brisbane where coffee tends to be cheaper). But there are some really good ones in and around Southport and quite a few down Burleigh way.

A good reason to roast your own coffee. A roaster can pay for itself quite quickly. I am lucky to work from home so I buy a cafe coffee only a few times a year.

Starbucks is more a 'dessert coffee' joint, they don't care so much about the beans and brewing as they do the syrups and powders they add to hide the flaws of their 'gourmet roasted till 1/2 charcoal' beans. So unless you get a quadruple choc macchiato frappachino made with ice cream, you're not having the 'real' Starbucks experience.

I suspect I can survive without ever having experienced the real deal.

I don't think I've ever been to a Starbucks. They all but disappeared years ago in Melbourne after failing to get a foothold.

But give them credit for revolutionising coffee standards in America where they drank) still drink that drip crap that stayed heated in glass jugs... to something more drinkable. And opening stores where you went to have a coffee --a cafe.
