  • Coffee tastings in perth

Hi just wondering if anyone in perth has been to any of the coffee tasting places in perth.. ie. yahava in the swan valley do a free coffee tasting of all of their beans supposedly. Anyone checked it out? Who else does this? Hubby and I are in perth tonight and Friday morning and thought we might go and investigate. Unfortunately have to go home Friday afternoon or otherwise we would have come along to the gathering in Woodvale on Saturday.

    Yahava is worth a visit

I've been just to have a look, had a chat with who ever was driving the roaster that day.

They have some stuff to buy, generally quite expensive, somethings are on sale so if you have an eye for a bargain...

I've not done their tasting sessions nor the barista training

Hi thank you both for a response. Came up for a show last night so werent able to go to offshoot but will keep it in mind if ever up here on a Thursday in the future. It Looks like we are heading to yahava this morning to check it out. Picked up a kg of 5 sense Compton rd yesterday on our way past Rockingham but it was roasted yesterday so will have to wait to test it. Hopefully we like something from yahava that is ready to grind and drink.

We tried xrated (I didn’t mind it black but hubby wasn’t a fan. It was lost with a dash of milk) Kahava then black gold. And then bought Kwik to take with us. Preferred it to the other three but not excited enough to buy. Maybe should have given the espresso a whirl. Maybe next time. Ended up stopping by port city roasters for some happy days to tie us over until the Compton rd is ready to use. Which will be Wednesday. Bit concerned that was told happy days needs 120 or as hot as I can get the water pref 100 or over... have been playing with 93 94 for commonage company. And Compton rd suggests 95. But 120?

Doubt your machine will heat the water to 120. All you’ll get is steam
They goofed, go with 94 or what ever you have been using.

exactly... i did question them... anyway compton rd likes 95 so I'll up the setting from 93 to to that and try it for both. Have enough commonage for a single shot tomorrow morning and then it will be happy days until wed/thurs.

ok.. port city roasters happy days. temp 95, 20.8 g of beans before grinding.( could have gone a little less but poured well and puck came away clean and fairly dry with only the slightest indent in the grinds) Grinder is still on what alternative brewing/macap set it at , 31 sec extraction. Hubby is happy. 2 coffees each one after the other. Next step a barista basics course for more knowledge and skills and then on to a bit of milk art for fun maybe. these beans will do very nicely until the other beans are ready ( on day 5-6 after roasting)
