No mystery Leroy, simply a matter of personal preference.

Well there it is, missed that.
I agree, but to be fair most Kickstarter videos are awful. If the Niche Zero was sold on its video alone it would have been lucky to reach double digit sales.

In that part of the video that’s what they say but then towards the end they say “Coffee Jack uses no pods, filter or consumables” with this screen showing -

I guess they mean other things like pods and filters, but have just explained themselves badly. This could be a very good product but the video and the sales pitch are ridiculous. They want to stop people buying take away coffee? When most takeaway beverages are milk coffees how do they account for that? We all know that pouring dead flat milk into your espresso whether it’s cold or heated gives a completely different end result to what you get from a cafe.

I love most brewing methods, including Espresso.
Each method brings a different perspective to the result in the cup and like Yelta says above, "Vive la difference."

    Mal.

    ground coffee, which is metal-filtered.

Well each to his own but I am of the opposite opinion: If I can't get a decent espresso I'll drink tea.

Since I often end up out of reach of any of my three machines, especially when I'm in the high country in winter (I'm a keen XC ski racer), I decided to try to make one I could take with me.

I’m also a bit confused - they say in the video that it doesn’t use any consumables. What do you put in it then?
