  • Sticky Pucks

    Hey all,
I'm fairly new to the whole espresso machine thing. Recently purchased a Delonghi La Specilaista.
I spent several hours dialing in grind and amount. I've arrived at what I thought was a great tasting americano and double shot espresso with nice crema, and a pressure within the recommended range on the bar gauge.
My only issue, and maybe it's not really an issue, is that I find myself having to scrape the coffee out of the basket. Some attempts to use the knock box result in the puck coming out in pieces.
Oh, and I should mention, this machine has a built in tamping lever, which I tamp with at the maximum pressure.

    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you need to use less coffee and grind finer, maybe also tamp more gently

How adjustable is the amount of coffee this machine grinds in to the basket for you?

I see it grinds direct in to the locked in basket/portafilter.

Be interesting to see if finer grind and slightly less coffee makes a difference.

      Product shot (sparkle).

Without disagreeing with the advice above, if you are happy with the taste of your coffee that is the main thing. If it turns out that 'fixing' the puck issue makes your coffee less to your taste......well, I know what I'd do.

Sure. If it ain’t broke. Don’t break it. Then fix it.

Unless you particularly like to break things. And then presumably fix them.

Then again, you might not know if it tastes better til you tinker. But by the sounds of things hours of tinkering has happened.

It’s the Espresso circle of life. Enjoy. :-)
