  • Buying Brown in North West Tasmania

    Hi CS’s,

I’m beginning a truly wonderful journey of coffee appreciation and have come upon a small glitch, to wit: I am located on
the North West Coast of Tasmania and so far, have not been able to find anyone who sells ‘brown’, apart from a place in Lonnie that is a four hour round trip from my area. If ever there was a good case for buying ‘snobs brown’, this is it. (and I am!)
But, as I don’t yet roast my own, maybe one day, (I wonder how many on here have said that before diving in head first the next day? ;D) I would like to establish a backup ‘brown network’ in case the unthinkable should happen and I actually run out.

So, could some of you nice Tazwegian CS’s give me the goods on where I might find acceptable ‘brown’ up here in the North West please?

    Thanks,
    b4b.

Good stuff b4b...No doubt you will roll your own sooner than later....

In the meantime, you should shortlist some of Andys CS brown as well. I have just loaded my grinder with the first beans not roasted by moi for a while- some of the very stealable Espresso WOW!

Shot #1 superb, amazing aroma and gorgeously fresh....

    Further impressions to follow.....

      Hi B4b,

4hrs round trip to Lonnie and on NW coast suggests you are somewhere west of Burnie?
Rayzurhed, Menace and myself all live in Burnie and roast our own.
RH does a lot of extra to sell to various folks, and I believe Menace does bit extra to sell,
      as do I.
Speaking for RH both of us would be happy to assist you in setting up for home roasting,
which is your best option due to your location, and can be done relatively economically,
or as expensively as you like.
We prefer our budget home roasting equipment
Apart from that Shelleys coffee lounge/cafe in the Centro plaza in Burnie sells oomph coffee which would be your best bet, (depending on how fresh it was).

      Regards
      Bullitt

Hey! Beansforbrains!~ Yeah I roast quite a bit and sell it to friends and family.
pm me, and I can give you details.
I know Menace roasts predominantly Fair Trade stuff if youre keen.
And yeah we can show you our set up if you really want to be a coffee snob FREAK!
Ive posted a couple of photos of my set up on the calendar link.

Re: Buying Brown in North West Tasmania

          Thanks for that info guys.............

Just a small follow-up. I spent an hour with Rayzurhed at his lounge and roastery. This man makes a mean ristretto. Seeing as RHs Rocky was on the fritz, I took mine, ex Lizzis that I had just bought from her so that he could partake of fresh, seeing that he didnt have a backup. I had not as yet used this grinder due to an absesce of beanz and so RH used the setting that Lizzi had left on it. Well, to say it was too fine might have been a slight understatement.......12 seconds of pressure gave no result, until.........whooshka.....the pf was blown out of Miss Silvia, leaving a perplexed RH looking at the mess and uttering its never done that before! Classic! Sorry RH, but it Was funny and Id like to thank you for your excellent hospitallity.

So, my intro to the world of the CS begins! Im looking forward to meeting more snobs from the NW area soon.

          b4b.

:-?i dont believe it... that is just too ..uuhmmm, explosive!!

B4B, what did the grinds feel like when they came out of the grinder? like fine sand? or like powder?

i must admit i didnt test the grinder after i had pulled it apart and cleaned it... didnt want to  send you a grinder with grinds it. :-[

could it be possible that i didnt position the burrs correctly and you were grinding talcum powder??? but that would mean the screw holes wouldnt line up...
            i am confused!! :-/

the Sylvias OPV should have taken care of the over pressure... it just doesnt make sense...
oh, dear, i can just imagine the mess....poor RH!!

              Hey Lizzi,

There is nothing wrong with Mr Rocky, just that we didnt dial him back to start with.....we got straight into it! Then RH over packed the pf and its lugs didnt engage properly. So RH dialled him back and did a perfect pour. But, on reflection, that confused expression on his (RHs) face was just priceless!!

So, rest easy Lizzy.......Rocky is working very well.....even if hes a little homesick for the rocking of the bus!
