I ended up making around 70 coffees on election day - which is ok I guess, but, like yourself, I was geared up for more like 200, and I pre-made enough hot chocolate mix for something like 120 hot chocolates, but only ended up making a few on the day.
I was at a Catholic Primary school in Caufield, which was great fun with some colourful characters coming through. But it was the first time that theyd hosted a polling both, and I dont think that they got anywhere near the numbers through that they were expecting
I agree, its a big job just getting everything together for the day, and it took me at least an hour just to get everything together and to load the car!
After all that I left my knockbox at home, and had to make do with gently knocking out on a makeshift rubbish bin, which I constructed out of a tall plastic washing basket.
Took me at least half an hoour to dial the grind in - which was frustrating as of course first thing in the morning was one of the busiest times of the day - that and from 2pm to 3pm for some reason. Made most of my coffees between these two times
The Domus performed like a champion, though, and I was happy with the quality of my shots after I finally got the grind right.
I used UHT organic milk on the day, which I kept rotating through a small 12 volt bar fridge, whihc saved messing around with eskys and ice.
It also means that my unused milk (of which there was quite a bit) can still be used at home at my leisure.
Still got a kilo of beans to get through, though - but Ive divided these up into smaller zip-lock bags for better storage, and will prob give some away
Any interesting conversations with the punters?
Talking to all the different folks on the day was definitely a bonus for me.
And it was good to see my equipment performing so well on the day!
I actually underestimated the number of coffees as I was counting the number of shots, but at least half of those were doubles, so getting up towards 200.... maybe 150.
GrindonDemand stopped by to order a caramel infused skinny soy latte... he was greeted with a friendy finger.
Yeah the conversations were good and I had a bloke from Honeywell helping me out for a few hours who said hed keep an eye out for useful bits (RTDs, PIDs,Swagelok...) which a tinker can always use.
The grind was sorted the day before and didnt really change too much. A tweak in the afterneen got some beautiful pours with that tiger-striping... Still the shots in styrofoam seemed less yummy than my home shots in nice porcelain cups.
Ive been warned that the P&C have my number now...

AND I wanted decaf ... jeez, talk about dodgy customer service! ;D
Great to meet you Mark - you & Pav were extracting some nice looking pours, & mine went down very nicely I overheard some other customers commenting favourably as well.
And, of course, I was very pleased to see that you were Grinding On Demand each & every coffee ...
Just read this post, and was absolutely chuffed to hear that the Pav made it out inot the open Mark!
Excellent work!
I made coffees for about 45 adults at our house warming, plus about 10 hot choccies for kids... I needed a helper to take and deliver orders, but that was stressful enough!
Sounds like you wouldve had a very rewarding day tho,.. well done!
Better late than never. It seems I get busier during my holidays, but Ive finally managed to get a few pic of the Pav working hard during the election day stall. It looks like I made 160 coffees on the day, which was less than I was expecting and definitely below my capacity. Anyway it was a great day and I know what to expect the next time...
My most humungous thanks to Andy for sponsoring the event. I really hope I did EspressoWow! justice.
If you look closely youll notice the gear-stick tamper, which was brilliant.
