Secondly, the surf club is now using Morgans, but I dont know how well they do it. The place was (as usual) absolutely packed, so I couldnt be bothered waiting, but I will be going back to have a cup or two.

Checked out the surf club cafe today, which is actually called surf cafe. The menu proudly boasts that they use Morgans, are trained and maintained by Scotty Callaghan and that their coffee is served at 70 degrees. So far so good.

I have to say, I was very happy with my double shot flat white. Chocolately and sweet, perfect temp (a bit under 70C I suspect, but that is all to the good), lovely smooth microfoam. Breakfast and lunch menus looked appealing. Staff were friendly, happily let us scope out their equipment, informed us that they are serving Morgans Ruby Fire, and had been visited by Scott on Friday.

Ill be back a few more times for the ultimate test - consistency!

I was speaking to the new owner of Escapades the night I bought the coffee in my opening post.

She was wondering who the strange bloke was staring into a closed café.

We got to talking and I found out shed just bought it.
She mentioned she was thinking off using Campos and was of to Sydney in the next day or two to continue discussions with Will.

She came across as very passionate about her coffee and equipment and Ive been looking forward to my next trip back to Terrigal to try it out.

For any snobs holidaying up here, I discovered two developments in Terrigal yesterday.

Firstly, the place that used to be called Escapades (opposite the police station and down a bit), is now Zanziba, and they are now using Campos beans (still have the La Marzocco). I dont know what Campos tastes like at Campos, but I found this blend quite acidic, and wasnt overly impressed by my macchiato. My double shot flat white was better, as the milk masked some of the acidity.

Oh, ill have to try. I figured thats what he might have done (I cant imagine how thatd be poured!)
Do they use a toothpick or something?

Where else did you try TG?

Crowne Plaza, where I was staying.
They had a Piazza dOro cart set up at breakfast.
Nothing special.


Sammy, yes, its nice.
It was easy to work out how he did it.
Just etched through the crema.
Give it a go.
He said he made them up on the spot each time.

That pattern looks nice TG, like an upside down tulip or warratah or some flower that hasnt opened. I like.

I spent the last few days in Terrigal.

I found a reasonable coffee for breakfast at a little deli/cafe on the main drag.
Its called DGs.

Unfortunately when I went back that afternoon for another, the young bloke who was on in the morning was not there.

That second one wasnt anywhere near as good.

They are using coffee from a Tamworth roaster.
