Short answer would be is its because the beans dont come from Andy!

I guess that the natural caffeine in the bean contributes to the chemical reactions taking place during roasting, and once thats removed, must surely change the chemistry. I think theres no question that decafs have improved out of sight in the past 6 or 7 years as we have better access to decaf that uses the Swiss Water process, and I think, better bean selection for the process itself.

So I dont usually go down the decaf line, but I got some roasted Mocha Java the other day for friends and stuff that come around. So I was curious last night, so I put some through the grinder and made up a double espresso, and then a double piccolo latte. I was quietly amazed at the taste. I dont have much experience with decaf cos past trials had sucked, but this definitely surprised me.

Yeah, spot-on Ray, these are a lot darker for the same roast depth (if that makes sense).

I snuck a roast of this into the grinder at work and apart from everyone yawning in the afternoon no-one picked the flavour.

This is easily the best decaf I have had.

Hey Andy I roasted some of them up and they are awesome, I ran them into second crack and they are a lot darker than I am used to, is this normal or do I pull them from the roaster earlier..... Ray.

    The stuff is bloody awsome!
Excellent, that is just the reaction I love to hear about our roasted beans and I agree, for a decaf it is quite stunning.

    Fresh is best!

    Enjoy,

    Andy.

Fatboy was spot-on, the Swiss Water Process green beans look like they are already roasted.

No need to check tomorrow, they are online now. Thanks for the reminder nudge.

Interesting point... I have been meaning to offer this as a roasted bean too, even have a stock of beans at the Snobbery they just dont appear in the BeanBay brown yet.

    Check again tomorrow.

metoo - The Decaf mentioned above will be green.

Actually, unroasted decaf beans look brown when they have been decaffeinated using the SWP method, so you could say they are green and brown.

But since you want roasted beans, lets just say they are green. ;-)

    Hey there

Will the Decaf be brown or green or both? Im after brown - Im not clever enough to roast my own just yet.
