  • Blue Mountains NSW Cafes?

Hi, I noticed there were a few people on this forum that live near the Blue Mountains/ Katoomba way. Im heading there in a weeks time for a conference over the weekend and was wondering if there were any places I should try out while Im in the area. I seem to remember some cafes on the main drag in Katoomba that seemed alright. Cant remember the names for squat, but any heads up would be appreciated.
Im half thinking of dragging the Minore and the Rocky there too if I dont get any suggestions.

    Cheers,

    YeeZa

      Fresh - 181 Katoomba street

Has had a good review on another website, and I thought it was pretty good too (using my untrained pallette of course!)

The Red Door Cafe in Leura. Its on the high side of the street - thats the left as you drive down it. I have had a great coffee followed by a good coffee another time. They also use Morgans Coffee. Their food is very good as well

Ill second Michelles vote for Coffeebox - it was a visit there that turned me from occasional espresso enjoyer to coffeesnob!

Thanks crew, Ill definitely give, well probably all those, a shot. I think it was the Coffeebox that I went to last time I was in the area. I was impressed with it then. Im actually staying in Leura, then driving to the conference in Katoomba. Im heading down there on Friday night, and probably hit up some of these joints around lunch time on Sat. thanks for all your recommendations again!

            Cheers,

              Hey there Yeeza

I forgot to ask how you got on up in the blueys.

Did you find any of the cafes to your liking? Which was the best? It would be good to get some other recommendations for when we are up there next.

              Shannon.

                Re: Blue Mountains NSW Cafes?

                Hey Shannon,

Yeah I didnt have as much time as I wanted but managed to hit up Coffeebox for a quick double espresso. It was between that and Fresh which was pretty much next door, so I stuck with what I knew was good and wasnt disappointed.
I managed to run in and run out with another DEspresso at Red Door in Leura which was also good.
So I had my share of Morgans Coffee which was great as its something i dont usually get around my parts. Ive gotta say, theyve got a great product though.

So I had a good experience, but there are so many cafes on that main st in Katoomba, itd be good to give them all a once over.

                  Re: Blue Mountains NSW Cafes?

oooh oooh.. whats Morgans coffee like? and has anyone tried their Drinking Chocolate??

It sounds like Morgans coffee has a good reputation from the posts above and so I googled and found their website (hope its the same one everyone is referring to) .

I wouldnt mind getting some of their Cafe Verde blend and their Premium Organic Drinking Chocolate, but maybe its not available for purchase by the general public because I couldnt see how to order anywhere.

I have enough greens here to last me for eternity,..but it would just be kinda cool to get in a coffee and choc by that name, for the novelty of it really,.. its a namesake thing.  I know my daughter will think it is very cool    8-)

                    Hi Remy,

I have some of their Drinking chocolate. I really enjoyed their "Organic Drinking Chocolate". It has 30% cocoa. Its not overly sweet. Then there is there Premium drinking chocolate 50% cocoa !

I have recently had some of their Ruby Fire, but I have also had some of their Cafe Verde. I really enjoyed both these coffee as well. Commercial link removed by Mods

Whats Morgans like? - Hang on let me WALK the 2.2km door to roastery and Ill pick some more up and tell you!!
I was sooo pleased at last years aroma fest to have someone tell me that they were close to me, it has been great to stop on by every couple of weeks to pick up fresh beans.

For me "the pony" is the bees knees, no matter what I try, Pony is always my benchmark. Might just be my pallette, but Im OK with that.

We have some organic at the moment for Allison and Trinity. Alli says that its good but needs sugar, so maybe the premium for us next time. Trinity loves anything with chocolate so she loves this.

Nice bunch of people who as you would expect are really into what they do.

Ok,.. just another stupid Q,.. do their coffee bags have their Morgan logo plastered all over em? ..... :... apart from loving to try new coffees,.. the Name thing is my main reason for wanting to pick up some since I picked up 10k of greens today and all. ;D

                          Re: Blue Mountains NSW Cafes?

I was at the same conference.

The thing with Katoomba Cafes is that they dont cope with a rush at all. The guy at Coffeebox was shaking his head when we walked in on saturday morning, saying that wed have to wait about half an hour for coffee. He looked stressed out and it was only 8am!

So we walked up to The Elephant Bean. They were packed out and not quite coping either. Theyd started using 1L milk jugs and steaming milk in bulk. That might be a common practise for them now, but it never used to be. Fresh hadnt even opened at that stage.

Either the convention organisers need to get around to the local cafes a few weeks in advance and warn them so they can put on extra staff (roughly 3,000 extra people all going for coffee), or people going to these conventions need to maybe give up coffee for a weekend, or these cafes need to realise that they will get busy at times, and learn to cope in a rush.

As I mentioned, I got to the Elephant Bean (Danes) for an okay-ish flat white. I had a double ristretto at Fresh a bit later, and that was pretty tart and sour, but not undrinkable. They use those green beanery beans, the ones where they roast in store and the marketing stuff says that roasting is as easy as making toast.

Yes, Morgans Coffee have their creative logo marked on them! This has been redesigned over the last few months, and looks really good!
