  • What to do if you get a bad coffee @ a Cafe

    Hi
What do the rest of you do if youget bad coffee at a cafe?

Do you send it back and ask for a better one?

    or

Do you not risk it on the grounds that the replacement will be just as bad as the first?

Personally I just leave the usfinished coffee and leave never to return and telling all who will listen how bad it was.

But today how ever I had a latte that was so hot my mouth still hurts and was still warm in the paper cup 45 mins after it was made. It  had to be 75 deg C plus (probably closer to 80) not the 60 deg ish Its suppose to be. Not only was the milk burnt it is dangerous.

I think ill go tell the owner of the cafe tomorrow and see what he says or maybe ill just tell every one.

I should have walked away after the half full frothing jug came from the fridge.
Mind you he does know about the forums so he is going to see this sooner of later.  ;D

    Cheers
    Rich

Just to refresh this thread, I simply act grumpy, moan about it to my wife, and never step back into that cafe.

Never had the guts to return the espresso.

What is the criteria for returning the coffee? Not enuf crema? Tastes like crap? Drain water?

Lets run a poll on it, sounds like fun!

If you return the coffee youll most likely get another crap one in its place because they havent learnt to make a good coffee otherwise they wouldve served you a good coffee in the first place ;D

My wife and I had a cuppa at a Café recently and my short was ..............YUCK.
I expressed by bitterness as it tasted like it was a second shot with a bit of new added in.
Barrista.....17yo said can you do better.... I got up emptied his doser into a bowl and ground some fresh, dosed, Tamped and shot.......... Not bad. The beans were on the way to the grave though.......... Nothing was said by the young fellow except some astonishment that I knew what I was doing......... Just sheer luck they had a Boema.

Fortunately for you you know your way around a commercial machine.

I have seen some cafes, where they rest their portafilters on the drip tray. When someone orders a cup, its only then they dose the coffee and put the portafilter into the group head.

Thats not right is it? Is that sufficient grounds to return the espresso?

Ive seen places where the pf is in the sink !! I hate when I order a latte (a fairly safe drink) at the PBTC picks up a still steaming pitcher from the previous order and, without adding extra milk, proceeds to steam the hell out of the milk. You have to wait 10 minutes before the drink can be consumed and not leave you with 3rd degree burns.
