I hung my head in shame as I had to succumb to visiting the above mentioned Café, however I felts as though I was quite surprised and very fortunate to come across such a great little Café.
Recently whilst on a mercy dash from Orange NSW to Adelaide to collect my injured Son, I was finding the driving very tiring and decided to pull over and get a Coffee, Knowing that the Service Stations are more than happy to provide me with Instant I decided to stop in at Macas that had a McCafé, due to their coffees at least being freshly ground.
The one we have here in Orange has one as well but the kids there are just button pushers, they have one of those Auto units that doesnt even know how to give a double shot espresso (you get 2 espressos in one cup instead), however I needed a ground coffee hit and needed it fast. I ordered, I consumed and went back for another without any hesitation, Crema was good, flavor was much better than what we get up here in Orange. In fact it was pretty good/Damn but good not as good as we make it at home in our house.
As I needed to have a bit of a spell I decided to ask some questions and have a look at what was behind the counter. To my great surprise it was a Rancillio 2 or 3 group unit and a Rancillio Grinder and these women were doing a great job..... The ability of these women/Barristas was fantastic and I was greatly impressed.
So on the return journey the next day, I called in again and decided to request the following
Double Shot...Good
Dopio......Good
Extra Espresso... which I left to see how long the crema retained its head... even this was quite a while.
Cappuccino..... Very Good.. Milk texture was very good micro.
If all McCafés were to this standard and were able to source better beans... the Café industry would be in trouble, maybe what I am saying is a bit tongue in cheek but the quality was very good and I would be more than willing to call in there again....
We can all sit on our high horses and declare that we can get great coffees from here and there, but from McCafé?, this was a totally unexpected treat...
Maybe the quality that is available here in NSW is set to be a lot lower standard...... :P
My Son now recovering here and a long drive behind me (32 hours without sleep) has allowed me to reflect upon how lucky we really are to be given the treats that we consume each and every day and how fortunate we are to live in this great country.
Have any of you found that any of the McCafés you have visited met your expectations?
