Great result g_s.
Always good to try to resolve any issues with the source (as I note was always your intention). Nearly always resolves the issue and saves a reputation from damage.
Cheers

Just to close the loop - I heard back from the roaster today - they had an electrical fault in their roaster and hence the poor quality - some beans slipped through and got shipped out.
git a full refund and replacement bags on the way - I will say great customer service to fix what was a poor first impression.
I do t think they are scorched - I got 2 bags of different blends from them - both appear to have the same colouring so not sure what’s going on.
ife emailed the roaster - if they are competent I will get a response, if I don’t then we’ll scratch them off the list and move on.
Pan fried in a hot wok in under minute?
Surely you weren't charged for that science experiment
They might taste amazing but I expect tasting notes will be straw, grass, green-peas, hay with a sour finish. I've had a couple of reasonable roasts in my life that had that appearance but they were middle east roasts for boiling in a pot (sort of bean soup) and while interesting, going back for seconds was unlikely.
Sugar caramelising is one of the desirable flavours that are produced in a good roast depth and evident in the bean and ground colour.
Goldilocks said... underdone is not good, burnt and bbq is not good, a wide range in the middle is just right and allows the bean to shine.
I'll be interested in hearing what the roaster says.
have never come across this before and wondering whether it's me or the bean.
Bought some new beans from a roaster
Loaded some into the hopper and ground into the portafilter.
Didn't really pay much attention, however the pour was SUPER quick and no crema - what really puzzled me was the puck was very crumbly (didn't hold together like a typical puck does)
Also noticed at this point the puck was a very light colour.
Looking at a handful of beans they are VERY light in colour.
Have never come across this before - will reach out to the roaster but wanted to post here to see if anyone had any other things I could try.
