Here in Adelaide today, when the six-day 'circuit breaker' lockdown was announced I immediately headed out to my local roastery to stock up as we were already at critically-low levels. I marvelled at the masses of people stuck in traffic jams outside supermarkets: 'stupid jerks, you've got your panic-buying priorities all wrong!!'.

Reminds me of a MMBT lyric: "what you call a disease, I call a remedy, and what you're calling the cause I call the cure"

I think we're the cause of coffeeholism rather than the remedy

I started off having only one cup of drip brew in the mornings during the March COVID work from home.

Then it progressed to 2 cups of drip brew a day in May.......

Now it just progressed to 3 cups of drip brew a day.....

I'm starting to get a little worried... is there like a equivalent of AA for coffee drinkers? You know... just in case?

I generally order a kilo of beans about five times a year, which basically covers weekend only consumption.

Now I have been working from home (computer programmer) since the end of March and I am ordering the same every three weeks or so. Two or three long blacks a day.

I work in the healthcare industry, specifically an emergency department. Dealing with the whole Covid situation first hand, change of policies and procedures in an already high stress stress environment i can 100% say coffee intake has dramatically increased! In a hospital, a cup of coffee is equated to a good chat... a debrief, a chance to stop and enjoy some normality. Im finding all healthcare staff from the doctors to the operational staff are drinking more coffee, simply because its one thing that hasn't changed.

I hate take away cups too and it's even worse when I get my espresso and they put a lid on the cup. No such problem at home and coffee is great!!

Our household coffee consumption has gone up by about a 3rd. I used to go through 2 x 500g bags and now I go through 3. They aren't exactly 500g but upwards of 450g. Still a decent increase for 2 people.

Many cafes open again now, although restricted to certain numbers of patrons.
Went out for coffee this morning with friends to a cafe I had never been to before. They were running 5 tables for about 20 customers in the outside area.
We 'signed-in' and ordered our coffees - 2 X flat-white in mugs, one in the larger cup and my LB in the small cup. They arrive at the table in 'take-away' containers. Now I HATE my coffee in take-away cups as for some reason, they are 1 1/2 times as large as the equivalent ceramic cup and the coffee is therefore not as strong.
The Barista (who served the order) apologised to the others for making them as 'take-aways' - so she knew she had done it wrong but served them anyhow.
I didn't get an apology so I assume she thought she had got that one right.
Normally I would send it back and ask that it be made again (not just covertly decanted into a cup) but this annoys my wife ("Can't you just shut-up and drink it?") and so I reluctantly said nothing.
If they can't even manage 20 customers it makes me wonder how they will go with twice that number when things are back to normal.
The problem is the "order-takers" who either don't listen to you or are incapable of writing down the order correctly for the Barista.

I've certainly been going through the beans quicker whilst working from home for almost three months now, and have been so grateful to be able to feed my habit without having to venture out into the mobs of the great unwashed!

started a topic COVID and coffee consumption

    COVID and coffee consumption

When I received my last batch of CS beans my wife asked, "how long does that much last?". I said about 6 months. That was less than 4 months ago, and I'm just about to re-order. I guess we've been staying home and having more coffee here. Same with others? Have Andy's sales gone up?
