  • I’m fuming.....New Vario is used!!!

Just got this delivered this afternoon. First inspection of the burs and there’s residual coffee grounds in it !!!

Maybe someone can explain. Are they tested or something before they leave the factory??? Any way to tell how much it’s been used?

Yep, tested at factory. Not sure how much, or how many... Not that much, and a few- I think

Wow, blood pressure slowly returning to normal. Hopefully some more people can confirm that.

Normally there's protective plastic stuck to the display panel of any new appliance. That is also missing. Maybe Mahlkong don't do that?

Yep, usually it says in the manual a little note saying there may be residual grounds due to testing. Most my grinders have come with that. All normal , but feel free to shoot an email to who you got it from if it doesn't say it in the manual

There's a fair bit of old stale coffee caked to the inside of the feed chute though; don't think that's normal...

Called the retailer and they said they test the grinder before it's shipped. They really should tell you that before hand. A little bit of communication goes a long way.

Yep. I am with Mal on that one.

Definitely looks suss to me. At the very least, that one has been used as a store demo and has done some work in my opinion.

I reckon you have been fed some porkies.

This is a post for Tampit, he knows these units better than anyone.

Personally, I'm happy to go with Caffeinator and his knowledge and experience based on decades as a highly reputed professional in the specialist coffee industry. 8-)

It was a semi tungue in cheek comment really.

No offence was meant to Tampit or Caffeinator both of whom I'd readily admit to having vastly more knowledge and experience than I do.

                  Cheers

Perhaps if we tag him he'll get a notification TampIt

Yeah I did ask Dipacci how can I tell how much has been run through it but couldn't get a straight answer. I don't suppose anyone else knows how to tell?

Ive owned / used / repaired several vario and a forte. From those pictures I call BS. Testing a brand new vario, say if you pulled enough shots to go through 250g bag? = reasonable but it would not look like that, there's a clear build up / residue.

unless they used the oiliest coffee they could fine on the finest setting they could without choking the grinder... it appears used - ex-demo, refurb perhaps.

I'm aware these grinders are in short supply at the moment. I'm hoping there has been no deceit in this sale, that would be extremely disappointing.

I sent out a request for quote to the sponsors. Didn't get any responses

If they don't have it or sell it, chances are they might not respond 🤨
