G'day Guys
I have been a tad busy with other matters, just logged in after a week or so offline.
+1 Leroy C: Those photos show a well used grinder (I reckon given the colour of the grounds, no trace of oiliness, well over a kilo to do that) which must have been a demo "for a while". The fact that I could clean all of that grunge off and make it look "just like new" in under 10 minutes also smacks of carelessness or worse by vendor (Dipacci). Pretty poor effort IMO.
Having said that, and assuming no idiot has bent the burrs, a quick clean and it should be fine for a very long time.
Enjoy your cuppa.

Lancruiser, I originally wrote that comment in this thread so probably should respond, while not speaking for Andy who owns the forum. Last year, from memory, a sponsor was banned from the forum for having multiple identities and trying to provide false reviews on his services. I also remember a second hand grinder incident identical to this coming up at the time, with regards to him. When this happened the moderators were clear it was being done to protect forum members and the integrity of what they read. I totally believe it was the right decision, I still have the PMs from one of his false identities.
That said, it is clear that all are here to advertise. I trust Andy's judgement on who is here. Some do this just by a passive sponsorship, say Breville, ECA, or similar. Others don't have as many opportunities to engage such as Has Garanti. The ones who do engage are usually smaller in staff numbers and if they bother to engage are probably aware dissatisfied customers aren't good advertising. I have bought machines of a couple of sponsors and would say they were utter gentlemen to deal with.
Not trying to imply that buying a $700 or $800 grinder is financially changing to vendor or purchaser, or that sponsors will bend over backwards for that, but sponsors are aware it is a small community and even a small sale is just a way to meet a new client. Also that a bad transaction reflects badly. I also know I would never, ever do business with the sponsor who was banned.

Dimal, I am not agreeing or disagreeing with you or LeroyC. I have only dealt with a couple of sponsors and the experiences have been good. If you were to recommend that everyone preferentially deal with the sponsors, it may be useful for you to outline the reason why, e.g. did the sponsors have to go through a rigorous vetting process? This will greatly help the rest of us make an informed decision.Last edited by lancruiser; 3 July 2020, 12:58 PM.

They’re quite a big business and the person dealing with your question may not have known to be fair. I have a Vario and it only takes a few days for coffee to build up and the grinds chamber look like that. But it’s more than just a single bench test and I reckon that grinder has been used for at least a few days of demo duties of some sort. Doesn’t mean it can’t be sold, but it really should be communicated by the retailer.Originally posted by Superman View PostYeah I did ask Dipacci how can I tell how much has been run through it but couldn't get a straight answer. I don't suppose anyone else knows how to tell?

Yeah at the end of the day CS sponsors are just here for to advertise their business. Being a CS sponsor doesn’t automatically mean you’re a top notch, reputable retailer, but of course many of them are.Originally posted by Caffeinator View PostIf they don't have it or sell it, chances are they might not respond ?

The value of dealing with the honest sponsors here often proves worthwhile.

unless they used the oiliest coffee they could fine on the finest setting they could without choking the grinder... it appears used - ex-demo, refurb perhaps.
I'm aware these grinders are in short supply at the moment. I'm hoping there has been no deceit in this sale, that would be extremely disappointing.

Ive owned / used / repaired several vario and a forte. From those pictures I call BS. Testing a brand new vario, say if you pulled enough shots to go through 250g bag? = reasonable but it would not look like that, there's a clear build up / residue.
