  • Powder Coat Machine - Sydney

    Hi All,

Anyone know of where I can get my Linea Mini powder coated in Sydney?

Prefer drop off/pick up - but will consider taking it apart myself and dropping the panels off somewhere...

Anyone done it previously and able to provide price indications.

    Cheers,
    Scott

What part of Sydney are you in? just looking at doing the outer back case , or other panels? gets more costly if you want to do the front group surround as more to remove...

      Based in Strathfield.

Looking to do the outer back case, group cover (inc top plate), and drip tray.

A friend of mine recommended Tech Powder Coating at Padstow
He had some motorbike frames done by them and they came out brilliantly

I'm curious, what colours are you planning on doing?

Powder coat is hard but brittle (and thick) and has limited colours. Two pack is hard but retains some flex, is not as brittle and comes in any colour imaginable. There are also metal finishes that you could use for the tray and cup warmer that might be more durable than powder coat.

Don't get me wrong, I've used a lot of powder coat on motorbikes but you do need to be wary of it's limitations.

I decided to have a crack at taking it apart myself over lunch and didn't run into any issues. Took it down to a local place and they said they could coat it for around $150 so didn't seem too bad...

Was thinking about the deep ocean blue. At $150 I also thought I could change it up pretty easily if I don't like it - definately not as expensive as I thought it would be.

In saying that, I absolutely love the look of the Pantechnicon Linea Mini in all black (https://www.pantechnicondesign.com/c...e-2-linea-mini) - but that's a fair bit more pricey to match the controls etc, so maybe that style will be my next change if i do!

Hmmm, hadn't really considered other options Also coming from my motorbike knowledge, just thought powdercoat was the way to go.

Might look at metal finishes for the tray/cup warmer - they're looking a bit tired right now.

$150? Hmmm, I’d be very hesitant.

Probably should have listened to you

I gave it a go, and a little disappointed with the results.

The colour isn't too bad but the finish is pretty terrible. Sigh. Might consider giving it a paint instead - any one have any recommendations for a good place to paint it?

Ok, it’s growing on me. Don’t even notice the average finish now.

Scotty, I notice you have a electric tamper there. Any thoughts on it you can share?

To be honest, I can't really provide a fair comparison to a traditional tamper as I've never used one Well, I've used one on my Dad's Breville Barista Express but can never get good coffee out of that anyway so doesn't really count.

I had a Breville Oracle prior to my Giotto and Linea so didn't need a tamp, and saw a good deal on the Puqpress right as I was changing to my Giotto so got it at the same time!

I actually have a Pesado Tamper on order so will be able to provide a comparison after that arrives.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it - it seems a little bit too small for my baskets (VST) and leaves a tiny bit around the edges untamped, but haven't really noticed any issues from a shot consistency perspective as long as I get the distribution good prior.
