Coffee in Auckland?

Im heading over the ditch in early July. Hoping for some advice on the best places to frequent.
Ill be attending seminars at the University of Auckland but am willing to travel to find quality.

BUMP... I leave in a week. I heard that good coffee was hard to come by in NZ, but surely someone knows a couple of spots in auckland?

Hi smokeydeck,

New Zealanders have a passion for their coffee and you will not have any trouble finding excellent coffee. We found the Vulcan Cafe in Vulcan Street Auckland, and Esquire on the corner of Albert and Quay St (Waterfront near ferry teminal) really great. Esquire has a relaxing atmosphere and is great for Aussies to have time out in a very vibrant foodie city.
If use the search on CS there are posts on Auckland coffee there.

Try Ponsonby Rd or Parnell or Mt Eden Rd or Kingsland,these areas are full of great cafes serving up great coffee.Have a great time in your hunt for the perfect Auckland cafe.I spent 15 years in and about the place and had a great time.

You cant go past Bens in Fort St, its just down the hill from the uni towards the waterfront. Best espresso in town

If you happen to be in the area, I totally rate http://www.icococoffee.co.nz/ Icoco - when I last lived in Auckland, about a year ago, I bought all my coffee there. They roast there own. One of the proprietors, Jose, is Puerto Rican and puts a lot of effort into recreating the coffee of his youth.

As people said above, good or at least reasonable coffee is the rule, not the exception, so its hard to single out individual places for attention.

Well I only went to Bens as it was just down the road and the first coffee I had was exceptional. A great cafe. The espresso was fantastic. The soy flat whites were ok so I stuck with double espressos. One time the drinks took 15 minutes to come so they refunded us money and gave us a second round on the house.
