There are between 2 and 4 million species of fungus*, of which less than 5% have ben described. The chance that this is a known organism is pretty small.

    * Mould, as commonly used, describes species of fungus that don't have separate fruiting bodies. We call the fungi that do mushrooms (or toadstools). There are some forms of mould that aren't fungi (eg the slime moulds) but they are not usually described as mould without qualification.

It is for this reason that I line my knock box with a small garbage bag. I've experienced the orange mould on occasion (Brisbane south).

    Any mould experts out there?

We moved suburbs in Brisbane a few months ago, from West to Inner North. It usually takes about a week to fill our knock box, previously there would be a little bit of white or greenish mould on the bottom pucks.

Now however we have this rampant orange stuff appearing after 2-3 days. Anybody know what the orange mould is? I haven't seen it before and it doesn't look like any orange mould I have googled. We have a lot of trees around the house so I suppose its endemic, and particularly obvious at this time of year.

Happy to empty more frequently, but curious as to what I am breathing in around the house...
