It's different and I feel it gets a bad reputation... But I was surprised when I tried it. I still occasionally enjoy drinking it as a pourover. Originally I had acquired some in order to recreate Vietnamese drip coffee, but I've enjoyed experimenting with it in other ways.

Drinking Robusta taught me not to accept everything I hear and be open minded! If I had really believed that Robusta was this unpalatable junk the way I've heard it told, I'd never have tried it. I'm glad I did!

    First time trying Robusta

I've just tried Robusta for the first time. I got the green beans from a local seller, their apparently from Java, Indonesia.

I roasted them in a popcorn machine also, took about 5 tries with different roasting times and settled on just under 6 minutes till right when some oil appeared after the second crack. I did try lighter roasts but didn't enjoy it but I might try again once then beans have sat for a while.

So I ground about 10gm and pulled an espresso from it lol. Its actually OK, I completly get people saying robusta is earthy or woody now. It has a very distinct flavour and a weird after effect, almost has like a punch in the face? That might be that caffeine I'm not sure, I've never had that feeling from any Arabica.

But I think I liked it Completely different from any other coffee I've tried. There is one other company in New Zealand that sells green robusta beans. They are from Chickmaglur and Koorg in India. I want to buy that next and contrast. And maybe try locate some more higher end robusta, but being in NZ its extremely uncommon to find it anywhere at all even as green beans.

I also think I will grind some and take it to work and get a guy there that's really into coffee and has done robusta before and ask what he thinks of it.
