That's very sad news about the Rocklea Plant. I would never have believed it would ever face closure, such a unique resource within Oz. Bet you'll miss playing with all the HV Test Paraphernalia on all that massive hardware out there. What a shame...
Hi Mal, this would have to be close to a world record for the longest delayed reply LOL. I missed this one.
Yes most likely one of ours around that time we had a 1125MVA and a couple 510MVA transformers heading out that way.
At the time the 1125MVA was the largest transformer in Australia, a few years later we build a 1500MVA for the same location.
This remains the largest MVA rated transformer in Australia.
For those who want to see what these look like in transport I've attached a picture of a 510MVA in transit.
Some sad news, The Rocklea plant's closure has been announced, so this scale of manufacture in Australia will cease to exist in a few months.
Along with it Australia's largest high voltage high power test labortory which I manage.
Saw on the news earlier tonight where a Power/Unit Txfr got into some grief going over the range towards Millmerran. That wasnt one of yours was it? Looks like a ~1000MVA tranny and not many places in Oz making those.
Must have been exciting for the truck drivers having to reverse all the way back down the range to get ready for another go tomorrow, especially with 600+ tonnes pushing them backwards down the hill.
