That's quite a collection you have there GrahamK. I tried taking a magnet to the two that I just found and interestingly only one of them was picked up by the magnet. Maybe I'll do a combination of magnet and sieve to cover all bases.

My jar of "foreigners" found after roasting. If you supply coffee to anyone else, family, friends etc, you need to ensure it is foreign-object free before you wreck someone else's grinder. If they are paying you for coffee, then you are going to possibly be liable for the damage.
My home-made de-stoner saves the day regularly.

There's quite a few posts/threads on this topic around the site. Quick searches for stone and stones limiting the search to the title only and limiting returns to Topics (Threads) only will return 14 threads between the two with this one being the main one.

Found stones in my bag of beans
I've been sieving my beans to remove any chaff before I bag and freeze. I mainly do it to make preparing coffee that little bit nicer. Excessive chaff seems to mess up my extraction or just cling to things and get messy.
This was what I was left with from sieving about 200g of coffee. There's not much chaff from this coffee, a few broken beans and a couple of stones!
Here's a close up of the stones next to a broken coffee bean as reference.
I've been grinding my own beans for years and have never had a problem. I've heard of people finding stones in their coffee before but it sounded too rare to worry about. To get two stones from a single 1kg bag of coffee was incredible. I'm not sure what damage this would have done to the grinder but I'm happy not to find out. It's safe to say that I will be continuing to sieve my coffee.
Has anyone else found foreign debris in their coffee? Does anyone else sieve?
