You mean, as in rusting? Very little water is involved. But possibly dissolving out coffee oils and gumming up the burrs may be more a possibility I suspect. Dunno.

I've always wondered, does the water have a chance of damaging the burrs?

Krypton, the possible clumping I mentioned was after spraying the beans in the Gino Rossi grinder. I do not need to spray when grinding with the sette as it does not cause static.

The grounds are beautifully soft, and fluffy, no need for any treatment, just straight into the portafilter and tamp..

I just picked up a 270 and have noticed quite a bit of static, so you're saying there were no issues with clumping using a couple of sprays before grinding? I've read up on RDT, etc but am still cautious

I have used 2 spritz of water for 3 years when I owned my sette 270, I spritz 2 times with my niche which I’ve owned since last year. I don’t find it clumps and even if it did I use WDT so it doesn’t really matter

I have a P64 grinder and always use one spray of water. I would say that the static would render the grinder nearly unusable without that spray of water to calm things down. When I first got it I tried varying amounts of water but landed on one spray. I see no clumping in my situation so I would imagine it is just a matter of finding the right (minimal) amount to be effective.

Too much water will cause clumping. Hopefully the static free water threshold of reached prior to the water clumping threshold.

    Water Spray, Clumping and Static

Occasionally I give a couple of quick sprays to beans immediately before grinding in the Gino Rossi. There's no doubt it significantly reduces the static cling to the doserless ss funnel. No doubt,

But... does the water cause clumping? Hard to tell. I suspect so. I'll keep an eye on it.

On the straight-through Sette, though, no problems with clumping nor static cling.
Working...
