  • New way to RDT?

I’m using a lagom mini and found static levels to be quite high. To rdt I’ve been using a bit of steam from a distance approx 15cm directed into the beans . I have a eagle e1 Prima so the steam pressure is really strong. It seems to work quite well and a better workflow for me rather than a spray bottle. Just wondering if anyone else does this or has a better solution ?
btw my first post here ?

I have not thought of that. I do use the steam wand to pre-wet my aeropress filter, never tried it for RDT

Welcome. Interesting pairing of the Eagle and the mini. How do you like the pairing?

Welcome from me also, I don’t RDT (Niche) and haven’t heard of using steam for that purpose. I would certainly be trying it if I did need to RDT….. now you mention it I’m surprised if it hasn’t been tried before…..will be interesting to see what comes out of the “communal brains trust”…

I used to do the James Hoffman technique of stirring the beans with the back of a slightly wet tea spoon.

There are a couple of tongue-in-cheek posts towards the end of the above thread re blasting the beans into orbit with a Linea, but it should be noted that if you do try this, you only want a gentle burst of steam with the beans well away from the wand.

Clever idea. Dang, wish I'd thought of that.

            HI BT, and welcome

If you are happy with the reduction in clumping , then keep on going.

            On a tangent now......

I run a hopper and i have a particular way I add beans from the bag into the hopper

i want to copyright and protect a pattern...... I think i will call it the Darryl Drop Technique ( DDT)

All this time , thought i was spritzing, stirring and dumping whereas I was really

RDT, WDT and DDT ing..... ( Not trying to offend Mr Weiss or Ross, just a light hearted poke????)

Here's a direct link to post 34 as one user's page 3 is not every user's page 3.

Tip: A post's number is also a link to the post. Right click, or whatever it is your OS does to bring up the contextual menu, on it and select Copy Link.

Welcome. I use the Lagom mini too and have the same issue with static. I’ll try your solution - until now I’ve been using a couple of drops of water but I like the steam idea.

After weighing my beans in the dosing cup, I usually pour them directly into my mouth, swish them around a bit, and then spit them directly into the hopper. Zero retention and I feel it gives the coffee added complexity.

You could maybe try popping them back in after they are grind and try a pour over? Cut out the middle man (carafe) and save on washing up?

Not a bad combo but I do prefer a more traditional thicker espresso. The lagom mini is eventually going to be paired with a second machine hopefully a cremina for a very compact setup? If anyone has tried this pls let me know.
