I suggest further to the above responses....look up FNQ / coffee numerous (well approx 4-6 from memory) in the region.
The largest being Howe family farms that I could easily ascertain from my minimal research.
I have a daughter that is posted to a teaching role in the area and was interested to see if I could purchase some green beans from this last years harvest...as she travelled past on her way home for Xmas....but to no avail.
Use the search facility and see if you can attract the attention of some other members here such as GrahamK as he's a long time member and growing some of his needs for a long period of time.

I have had trees growing thru to harvest....metro Bris.... and from my ltd experience I would need in the numbers of 50-60 plus trees given good And consistent harvest to be anywhere near self sufficient for my yearly 20kg* (post roast !) or thereabouts needs.

Anyway good luck stick at it. The growing is relatively straight forward and as WBN said above the challenge presents in how to efficiently process the harvest thru to ready to roast.

B u t don't be daunted a little research, ingenuity and pluck will see you ready to roast......which is far more fun !

*PS dont look past the fact that a kg of harvested greens beans will produce around 850g of beans once roasted !

I have one tree. Grown in Sydney Australia. Tree did grow many beans however many were empty. The beans that did come out looked good. Processed as naturals dried in bean then I peeled off the cascara and chaff to get the beans. I had to do this by hand which is very time consuming. Next season I want to pulp and dry in mucilage like a honey processed coffee.

Picture below is of the tree in bloom a few days ago. After a really hot day it was in full bloom. Flowers smell very citrusy.

I’ve got a few trees - just be aware that processing is hard work for not a lot of beans. But it’s fun so give it a go!

CSIRO has done research on best varietals for Au so maybe search google

I'm thinking about becoming a small-scale grower. and I mean small - maybe a dozen trees, and I'm unsure about varietals suitable for FNQ tablelands. Doing this primarily as a thought experiment, but it's also more about being sustainable in my consumption. No plans to be a commercial supplier, just for curiosity and my own consumption.

Anyone here involved on the growing side of the industry?
