  • Moving from Nespresso to Jura

    Hello everyone!

I'm new to this forum and thought it would be best to ask the question here.

I've been using a Nespresso Vertuo machine for a while, with my favourite pod being Melozio. Recently, I've made the switch to a Jura machine (an older one - Impressa F8) and I'm fairly new to the 'beans' world. I'm loving everything else the machine can make for me, however, I find the "coffee" option to be very different from my usual Melozio pods, and I would just like to understand why. Why does my Nespresso Melozio pod has a lot more crema (it's thick and I love it), and tastes smoother and sweeter?

Is it because I haven't found the right beans for this 'black coffee,' I'm not using the machine right, or something else entirely? To be clear - I'm not expecting to get the exact flavour or taste of Melozio.

I still like the black coffee the Jura machine is making, but I just don't know why there's such a difference, and would really appreciate it if someone would educate me

A few notes of my setup -
Jura Impress F8 - cleaned and functioning appropriately
Current Bean - Code Black from Melbourne
    Strength setting - normal
    Grind setting - normal
    Volume setting - 240ml

    Thank you in advance!!

I think to find a coffee with a similar taste will take some experimenting with different beans to find ones that suit your taste preferences the best. In relation to the texture you would miss from the vertuoso machines. It is unlikely to be replicated by the Jura as the crema created on a Nespresso vertuo is faux crema. I recommend watching the James Hoffman video linked below where he explains the texture of the coffees produced by this machine.

      THANK YOU!!!

This video and your reply pretty much answered my questions!! I do miss the faux crema from the Nespresso, but I can live without it. Not being a coffee guru, and with Nespresso being my only experience - there was a part of me thinking there might've been something wrong with my Jura because of the lack of crema (in comparison). But now I'm feeling confident with it

And thanks for the tip RE experimenting with different beans. Knowing the difference in crema now, I can focus on finding the right coffee bean without concerning myself over the crema.

      Thanks!
