Well you did say the best..... and that generally means only one (or two at a push).

I dont know the coffee scene in Melbourne and can only hope its better than it is in Perth..... but here if you asked that question Id list two places..... and thats all!!

If you asked "half way decent coffee"..... Id add a few more....

If you asked where you can get a coffee (well maybe pig swill) there would be hundreds!!!

Very few places here have the passion, the commitment and really care about making a good coffee..... and whilst there are probably a few more in Melbourne..... I wouldnt expect very many where you can have a great coffee. I suspect most would be similar to here where they focus on turnover and profit - at the expense of quality.

While I was over that way recently, I enjoyed Brother Baba and Atomica which were both mentioned in other threads. Wish I could of tried more

I was in Melbourne recently as well, and revisited BBB, which I stumbled across last year...I will now go there every day I am in Melbourne on my yearly visits...the coffee is consistantly great...just wish they had a few more chairs on the ground instead of on the ceiling !!
Had a nice ristretto in a cafe somewhere near the casino....just strolling by and loved the name (The Guava Bean) and great coloured machine at the front...but the coffee was good, if you are in that area.
Went to Pellegrinis, cos apparently you have to go there when in Melbourne...not sure why...I can honestly say I can make a much better coffee with instant...seriously !!!....their latte was a boiling hot cup of WAAAAY overextracted sh!t ...
One more name..Switchboard...find it....its hilarious !!!....and the latte I had was very good indeed...I have no idea where it is, though!!!..somewhere on Swanston St, I think.
              cheers,
              buff
