  • What's your favourite Iced Coffee Recipe?

    Hi all,

Wife has taken a liking to Iced Coffee, so as I've never made it before I'm after your favourite recipe.

With or without Ice Cream? With or without Cream? Cold or Hot Shots? Any special additives?

    TIA

Personally I can't stand a sweetened coffee, so it's a no from me for ice cream etc.
If I am in the mood on a summers day I will order and iced latte - which is just espresso over ice topped up with milk. Dead simple.

I also find apart from a long black, iced latte travels the best. Frothed milk loses the texture and you end up with warm flat milk.

I imagine you would cool the espresso first?

Nah, just maybe 1/3 fill a large ish cup with iced and pour the espresso straight over the ice. It's 30-40ml so it doesn't need much to cool.
Only thing I find is that after a while the ice will melt a little and leave a film of water on top of the milk which doesn't look pretty. Quick stir/swirl and you can't notice at all.

Espresso pulled into a few ice cubes, then add the milk. Works well for me.

When I’m feeling a bit more involved or prepared, I’ll do coarse ground coffee and add water (1:6 ratio), let it brew in a jar in the fridge for ~18hrs, then filter. Can be as simple as using an aeropress and paper filler for that. Works well diluted with water or milk.

Have done this as well and it works very well. Although I didn't filter with the aeropress paper, from memory maybe just strained with a cheese cloth before I had V60 papers.

It’s really just whatever’s available filtering method. Aeropress tends to be fairly clean and grinds free. I’ve also done with a plunger, and for larger batches a funnel with either cheese cloth or large filler papers I got with the brewover years ago.

Japanese style flash cold pour over is far and away my favourite. If you like soft brew or filter coffee of any kind this is the way to go. There are a number of recipes online and on YouTube. The James Hoffmann one is probably the easiest to follow. After that I do quite enjoy espresso pulled directly over ice on a hot day. I don't like cold coffee with milk so it's black options only for me.

At home the youngest daughter pours the leftover Brazen filter (usually Harrar) into a Mason jar and puts it in the fridge for tomorrow. Adds (30% at a guess) almond or oat milk when she wants it. She prefers this to every iced coffee she's bought.

For me, the best iced coffee is Javaphiles cold drip, although I tend to make it super strong (pinging for hours)

For me it is a double shot in a 10oz glass, a couple of ice cubes, top it up with cold water from the fridge and about a tablespoon of lactose free pouring cream.

Made me want one so I just made 20g in 50g out into a (pre-sugared if desired) glass keep cup, let sit whilst I do the clean up, 2 blocks of ice and a good swish, a good splash of regular cream (no additive or thickener), top up with full cream milk, a dollop of vanilla haagen daaz (only when on special) if desired. I didnt have the ice cream or sugar but people do love it with them in. tis hot here 36c ish.

Nitro brew. The extracted coffee is poured into a keg, refrigerated and gassed with nitrogen. Produces a beautiful creamy textured cold beverage. I have found that a light roasted filter coffee produces some of the best brews. Roasty notes are definitely not welcome as the bitterness becomes prominent. Light delicate coffees with lots of sweetness and fruit are my favourites.

Well thank you Mate! I remember the first time you tried it. I handed you a container of the CP (Cold Press/Brew) and turned around to get some milk from my cooler to blend it with and as I turned around you'd filled your cup with the CP and were drinking the whole thing. I was like "Dude! You just drank 2 pots of coffee!!!" Buzzing for hours indeed! Hahahaha

As I recall that first batch was done with Harrar Longberry Horse beans and brewed when the wild blueberry notes were at their strongest. Yum!!!
