Re: Re: Best coffee in melbourne?

Locking a general discussion thread seems a bit strange especially when placed in the general area. I cant find another place where general discussion on the merits of one place compared to another comercial place can be discussed.

The thread starter clearly cant ask a question there due to only having a couple of postings so "General Coffee Related" is the correct area for a general discussion.

If it was degenerating into a bagging session or self promotion then close it but otherwise discussion of commercial coffee is as valid as home coffee

edit:: Just had a reread of Andys origional post on the setup of the area below and he did mention the Non discussion of commercial coffee elsewhere.

Minor problem with this is that the sections below then dont allow any subjective discussion of say a shop in Carlton compared to any of my old haunts in St Kilda as it is split by areas.

A lot of the media read websites like this to gain an idea on where to get a good coffee. Ive notice many people starting up threads just so they can drop a name of a cafe or wait for an opening to promote. The moderators know more than you guys realize. I know many companies that have done it. You would be surprised and a little shocked on who does it"

I received a phone call the other day about reviews online and I just said "Dont look at any reviews online, I just concentrate on what has to be done." The phone call was a little weird and I didnt trust this guy because i knew he was going to put it on his website.

What i did to find Melbournes best coffee was........ GO OUT!!!! Check out the coffee scene guys. Cafes always need the support.

        So whats wrong with that?

Not that theyd get much off CS -- were all too busy building correttos and roasting our own!

Thats terrible. Anyone youd care to name? (and do you know that that is what happened here?)

It appears from the comments that the thread had transgressed solely by virtue (vice?) being in the wrong place. Hence my original remark.

Businesses will try to arrange favorable reviews. Which bits shocking?

Businesses masquerading as ordinary forum members is one reason we have beady-eyed mods. There was no indication that that was the case in this instance.

I didnt ask the original question; sadly I have limited opportunity to investigate "cafe culture". A situation that is unlikely to change given that asking for a recommendation in my area is seemingly verboten.

My point was purely about the locking of the thread.
