  • journey to the 2kg level

well after putting nearly 2 kg through my combo and going from a sink that looked like a bomb had hit it ive slowly sorted out some kind of procedure and i finally arrived at some "god" shots yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the results BUT just when i thought i had arrived to some kind of consistency i got thrown back into chaos today > but after some grinder adjustments im back on track

not a 100% sure what went wrong, ended up adjusting to a slightly coarser grind but im thinking it could of been a technique problem more than needing a grind adjustment

a lot more confident in what im doing though especially with adjusting the grinder but i cant wait to get past this stage of just not knowing if its going to be a sink shot or a keeper and in the cup :P

Id never had an espresso that tasted good before Chris from Talk coffee made me one (or three  ) the day I bought my Mazzer.

Prior to that Id only tried a couple and thought they were bloody awful.
But the difference was like night and day between those and the ones Chris made.

Anyway the long story short of it is Ive started to develop a taste for em and recently began having a double shot, and a latte (also double) for breakfast each morning.

I know exactly what you mean about getting everything just right to try and achieve god shots. Its so much more important for straight espresso than it is for milk drinks..although milk drinks benefit from god shots as well

hey Gronk, well my god shots may well be sink shots for most at the moment ;D

but i have been having a taste of each one just to know whats going on, the good shots were smooth unlike the usual stages of bitterness ive been getting but just watching the extraction on those ones i kind of already knew they were going to be good.

i didnt think i would ever consider a shot on its own but just from my limited experience so far i can see that when everything goes right its not going to be out of the question in the future especially when i start trying other beans/blends

I so know what you mean, I had the pleasure of Chris running me through some of the machines on his bench and although I didnt have the time for more, the espresso he made me was the best I"ve had...

I bought a deeper basket yesterday. It looks exactly the same as the one in the attached pic. (pic "borrowed" from the Pullman website)

See the difference in height from the standard double Silvia basket.

Very impressed with my shots today!
