So, after quite a few years playing at home barista Im looking at what training I might be able to do to gain the right skills to get a job as a real one.
Im in Brisbane and have been using a small HX machine for the past 4 years (Giotto Premium) paired with a Mazzer Mini and prior to that a bottom of the line SunBeam for another 4 years. Ive been home roasting since January and really love what I can get out of my equipment these days. I have friends who prefer my place to any commercial coffee they have found locally (most probably just stroking my ego, but its nice of them to say).
My rosettas are pretty good about 70-80% of the time, I have a pretty good understanding of grind settings, shot length and at the very least, basic machine adjustment. I have no experience on larger HX machines or any DB machines or anything with more than a single group. (i.e. I think I need to learn/practise milk texturing on a stronger steaming machine).
Sooooo... can anybody point me at suitable courses in Brisbane that are not so basic that I could probably give the course myself, but will also extend my skillset, point me in the right directions perhaps filling in any blanks and give me the confidence to move forward?
Id also like to get more into commercial roasting and blending. Ive been seriously home roasting since January on a HotTop (great mini roaster) and have a couple of friends helping lower my stock levels. Any suggestions on where to start or go to move up from here?
cheers,
James
