It is not a label but a badge of achievement. To few understand the joy of making a cup of coffee which at the time you think is perfection. Then you try a cup by someone else and your world is shattered - it was better than your best - so the search starts again. Perfection is an allusion to which we all aspire. (Deep)

Thanks Stan, My wife would certainly concur with the label you just put on me. I kinda like it.  ;D

If every thing when right every time, what would be the point of practicing. ;D ;D

If we werent perfectionists then we would be buying cafe coffee and thinking it was wonderful. However we like our coffee and look for the perfect cup. As a result we are continually trying new beans - machines - grinders and every time we change something the leaning curve starts again. You are a CoffeeSnob 8-)

I guess the ups and downs is what makes the journey more interesting.

Im sure I could use some pointers on Dose/Distribution/tamping. What makes it suprising and frustrating is that I had some initial success based on what Ive learnt by reading/watching.

I also attended the sunbeam coffee school the other week (I own an em6910) and I was pulling marvellous shots consistently. And while my milk wasnt 100 points perfect, it was pretty darn good.

Early milk texturing attempts with a glass jug with outward sloping sides with the wand to high : dropplets 3 or 4 from the machine.

First week with unpressurised baskets and using a proper Tamper : My sink drank more than me that week

Roasting my own the first couple were great then the third I wasnt paying attention to the temp between first and second and it raced away what a waste of some PNG Wahgi [smiley=cry.gif]

Like all things in life got to learn from your mistakes

Yep, I have been through that, and probably will again (and again, and...).
Had a nice setup on my old machine, decided to play around with the grind, and it took me weeks to get back to a decent pour again. The weird thing was that I reset everything back to what I thought I had initially, but nothing seemed to be working anymore.
Over time I clawed it back , and then wasnt game to touch any settings for a while :-)

Were going the other way. Got the new machine, it was making good coffee.

Picked up the new Rocky, and used fresh beans instead of the Dome pre-ground stuff. It took a days or so, but the coffee has gone up a notch since Friday.

Stick with it, we sort of went 2 steps back, but over the weekend we have now gone about 6 forward.

Im sure someone else will say it, but have a muck around with grinding, tamping etc. Its worth it when it all comes together. But you know that already. :-)

Ive been goin through a hopeless patch for the last cuppla weeks.
The first 2 batches of coffee I roasted were pretty good. My shots were consistent and most tasted pretty good in the cup.

Roasts 3, 4 and 5 sucked and I havent pulled a good shot since

But there is light on the horizon. I spoke to Mal last night (Thanks mate. Much appreciated  )and he set me straight on a few of the areas Ive screwed up in, so once my next delivery of green beans arrives (monday or tuesday) Ill completely change my roast routine and hopefully solve the issues that have been plaguing me.

So yes I understand your frustration ACog.

Hmm, I remember the early days Its a bit hard to forget wearing hot splattered coffee grounds all over me and taking aaaages to steam milk. Dont ask. I upgraded.

    Keep at it.

Need some suggestions for grind, distribution and tamping? Im not sure where youre up to on all of that.

Ever feel like youve just taken 10 steps back?

This weekend, coffee wise, feels like its been a complete disaster. Just when I thought I had my milk technique down pat, I had finally got my grinder and some fresh coffee beans and everything should have come together....

Instead, all Im getting is flat, warm milk with bubles and gushing coffee. It doesnt seem to matter what variables I change to correct things, I still end up with disappointing results.

Of course, my ignorant family is raining down praise on my coffee skills and thinks Im just being pedantic (whats wrong with that anyway?).

*sigh* Has anyone else experienced this in their journey to coffe nirvana? Perhaps I should quit my job so I can stay at home practising all day  ;D
