Ive got similar ones from coffeeparts.
Clear one side, black the other.
Ive thought about getting all black next time but I like the look of the beans.
I just bought the same ones. Although all black is probably best, Im sure theyll be fine stored in a cupboard.
I roast 400g of green beans which gives me approx 325g when roasted. The 500g bag fills up nicely with very little air/space left behind.

I roast 300g which gives me 250 roasted and they fit in the 250g bags.

I would say from your description Evan that you arent expanding the gusset.
I have to, to make mine fit, but then the bag sits upright too.

I found this bottle of specially methylated spirit and contains 98ml/100mL Etthanol and 2g/100g Methanol. It seems to be old as the EXP is 4/98. Is it still safe to use to wipe out the bags?

Wow, I didnt know that stuff had an expiry!

I can only assume its more to do with the container getting old and brittle and not the contents going off. Alcohols dont really go off, they do attract water and become diluted but I would doubt you would have a problem using it.

Just make sure it doesnt smell like the plastic bottle that its stored in.
(not a very good aroma trait for coffee)

If you have problems buying pharmaceutical ethyl you can always buy a bottle of vodka and use that.

The best thing about using vodka is that you dont have to waste the dregs.

              Coffee flavoured vodka YUMMM ;D ;D ;D

Sadly, you cannot get everclear in Oz. If you have your own still, you could probably make yourself some.

                95% goes well with powerade.

                  Hi Guys,
I took your advice and cancelled my order of the vacuum stoarge container and went to order bags . For 10 they were $6.75 but then $20 for postage! Is there any cheaper way of getting them?
                  Thanks
                  Dave

You can buy them in the "other stuff" section of beanbay. Site sponsors coffee parts and perhaps some others sell them too.

Re: One Way Valve Bags Re-Used

I use zip-loc bags inside one way valved bags, so that the valved bags dont get soiled:

...Beans go inside a zip-loc bag (Glad, sandwich size), with air squeezed out
...The bag of beans goes inside a pre-loved one way valved bag

Having the beans inside the zip-loc bag prevents the oils and residue coming into contact with the more expensive valved bag. When the coffee is used I throw away the much cheaper zip-loc bag, and use a fresh one for the next batch.

The valved bag picks up only a little odour, which seems to dissipate by being hung up to air for a few days (with the mouth propped open). Ive been doing this for a few months with no build-up of smell in the bag so far - but if any smell does build up, it would be easier to clean out than if it were smell plus oils.

Except, how are the beans going to degas if they are in a sealed zip-lock bag? And if they are already sealed in a bag, what extra benefit is the valved bag providing?

Zip lock bags are not totally air tight I suppose. I agree with Thundergod, that is a brilliant idea.

What purpose does the valved bag provide though? You might as well not use one. Seems pretty pointless to me.

You may be better off using the zip-locks, half open, or not totally sealed anyway, so that the gas can escape it and then out the valve in the valved bag. So basically youre still utilising the purpose of the valved bag but keeping it clean of oils with the zip-lock.... so basically using a normal plastic bag, open, inside a valved bag would do the job. Getting a bit technical now, but thats what Ive started to do.... not sure if its a go-er, but Im definitely a stinge as far as saving valved bags.
